Favorite Picture Meme & a Laugh at Work

Julie (see "Virtual Journey" among my blog links,) suggested a meme in which people post their favorite pictures & create a story about it. This is my favorite picture, from Forest Lawn Cemetary in Buffalo, NY. My story is more a caption, but I'm no writer;
Basil had said it would be a cold day in hell before he'd allow his wife a divorce. Basil was right.
I'm not really sure why this is my favorite picture. There's something about the starkness, the dead weeds & plants, the classic black & white like the contrast of life & death, itself.

In other news, I had a chuckle at work when I tried to access my blog today. It's never been an issue before, but suddenly some of my pictures were coming up as broken jpgs, & when I clicked on them I got a message saying the firewall blocked them as pornography. I e-mailed our Net Admin about it; "I realize that 'titmouse,' 'white-throat' & 'my head shot' might sound dicey, but I promise that there's nothing pornographic about them." He was kind enough to adjust the filter to allow my pictures to display. I hope he got a chuckle out of it, too.

Yup, it sounds as if the porn filter might have needed an adjustment or two. I was sitting here thinking about how difficult it would be to communicate verbally if every word or phrase that might have a pornographic connotation were bleeped from speech. What a nightmare!

Hi Lana,

Thank you so much for the cheerleading on my blog. It feels great.

That's a funny story about your blog and the pornographic filter.

ROFL on both counts.

Don't know if you used to get Fawlty Towers - Basil Fawlty (John Clees the comedian) over there, but the name is
etched in Brit humour....

btw the pic(s) could be anything - your own or attributed - just thought it would make an easy, interesting post - or posts!

Marvin; My husband's a prof at a Catholic University. At one point they had their e-mail filters set so anally we could hardly e-mail one another at all. I'm not talking particularly sexual terms, either. They'd included terms like "evolve."

Crayons; I enjoy your blog--glad I found you. :)

Julie; My bad on the pix. I love Fawlty Towers, particularly the episode concerning Manuel's pet rat, Basil ("You put Basil in the ratatouille?!?") I also love "Keeping Up Appearances" and "Blackadder."

That's hilarious about the filter. I never would have imagined. I got a weird one once when my University email wouldn't accept email files with the label "darwin" in the title.

- The FT most people remember is the one with the Wildebeest.

Our kids could recite the whole of 'Bells' one episode of Blackadder, they listened to it so many times.
Random, this - but we once drew up alongside Rowan A - he was in a limo - one freezing cold January morning on the way down to Brighton?

Did you ever see Red Dwarf?

Great photo. Lots of atmosphere.

On the firewall topic, for a while the breast cancer survivors group on AOL had trouble because AOL kept blocking their posts because they included the word "breast."

Charles; I remember the problems you had then!

Julie; I only managed to catch one or two episodes of Red Dwarf when I was in Canada. Yet another entertaining show!

Shauna; Thanks. Too much about the AOL filter! For a society that's so obsessed by them, we certainly seem to have a lot of Victorian web filters!
