Birds of Fontainebleau State Park

Another lovely day (with clearing gray skies)
yesterday, so we went for another hike...

We found a boardwalk being replaced (much of the park has been closed since Hurricane Katrina, although repairs are underway.)

5 American coots of about 12 in the immediate area.

An American Robin.

2 red-winged blackbirds. There were at least a dozen flitting about, but I wasn't able to get any pictures of the group. These were the first red-winged blackbirds I've seen since I moved here.

2 Canada geese (although I'm not 100% sure on that.)

Some kind of seagull and a northern mockingbird.

A common crow and a brown pelican, state bird of Louisiana.

There were more birds than this of course, including a cardinal, a hairy woodpecker, a great blue heron and numerous little, wedge-shaped flyers I got some pictures of.

Great pictures. Do you have a flickr account? I love flickr cause I can go see everyone's pictures. Yours are awesome nature shots, my favorite kinds!

Julie; Thank you!

Ello; Thanks! No, actually, I don't have a flickr account. I've been considering getting one, but nothing's really been pushing me in that direction very strongly...If I do, I'll let you know!

Great shots. I never tire of seeing and experiencing nature.

I have a picture of a young male cardinal that I took as my home computers wallpaper. One of these days I 'll get around to posting it on my blog.

You are lucky to live so close to such spectacular place.

I particularly LOVE the Northern Mockingbird photograph!

Also love your profile photograph, the diadem is lovely - I'm partial to them myself ;)

middle ditch; Thanks for stopping by & for the kind words! I'll return the favor shortly.

travis; We are pretty fortunate--we're practically surrounded by such places. One of these days I'd like to get a digiscope for my camera, so I can get those great, up close & personal shots.

miladysa; Thank you! I was surprised the mockingbird came out that well, as I was zoomed way in without a tripod. The diadem is from the Louisiana Renaissance Festival (a couple of years back.) My wedding was the first real opportunity I had to wear it.

I'm afraid I'm in for some birdwatching today too. The Dynamo likes to march me up the sides of terribly steep things, 'for my own good'.

We see a lot of birds. They're pleasant and sometimes distract me from the black spots in my vision and the numbnes in my left arm...

:-)

Steve; *LOL* Do you have a digital camera? If so, perhaps you bring it along someday (if it won't cramp you any worse,) & share some of your photos!

Anyone interested; I'm blown away right now at the dozens of birds in the backyard. My 4 goldfinches have become 11, & that's besides the 28 chipping sparrows, the plethora of "usual" cardinals, etc.! It looks like our backyard is moving...very surreal!

Delighftful. Nothing quite as such in Detroit today, though it's unseemly warm for Jan'y.

Hello!

Birds are as free, yet their captured image impart that feeling to another just by seeing them.

Wonderful shutter work.

Definietely want to see that marsh again some morning or late evening, and have the binoculars with us.

Lisa; Thank you, too! We try to get out for hikes on the weekends, at least.

Travis; *LOL*

zen birdfeeder; Yes! It seems to be getting crazy out there these days! Very nice. :)

erik; Get it while you can. I'll go have a beer on our deck for you. ;)

eric1313; I've enjoyed bird watching since I was a little kid. They're like flying jewels, y'know?

charles; It's definitely a date.
