LND; Kids, Clocks & Swaying Buildings

8 kids got alarm clocks as presents. They weren't happy. They were shown in a strange grid pattern with 4 each in 2 rows on a white background. All of the kids were frowning & had their clocks displayed beneath their faces. Later I was walking through a ritzy neighborhood. Many of the homes had tall, white columns out front. The road turned left, but had a house in front of it. 3 very young kids were there. I went to check on them, to see if they were okay. They had been left alone. I went to a neighbor's house, to let them know. They didn't seem overly concerned & said their dad would be home soon. Heading back to the kids' house, the father had returned. He was clearly looking for me & I didn't want to be found, afraid of his possible anger at my meddling. I left the area. I ended up looking at a picture of multiple high-rise apartment buildings shown from above. Some of them were so close together it looked like they were touching. Some of the buildings had strange angles, more triangular than square or rectangular. Charles & I lived in one of the buildings that was close to another. I went up to our place. Charles was sitting on the couch, reading. I went to look out the window, where I could see the roof of the nearby building just below us. Soon I realized the building was swaying in the wind. Although most structures are designed to do so to some extent, our building swayed so much I was afraid it would hit the other one nearby. I expressed my concern to Charles, who wasn't overly concerned & suggested I go sit by him.

My concerns about the kids & the swaying building don't get much response from those I speak to about them. The kids in the ritzy neighborhood are probably related to childhood memories, again. Charles seems to represent a protector in an unstable environment here.

Obligatory photo of the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara, taken from the Skylon Tower 5 or 6 Summers ago.

Green eyed monster re Niagara....

great shot. That blue green water is amazing.

Would love to see it again; got drenched on the Maid of the Mist when it was running!

I agree, beautiful photo. I've never been to Niagara Falls. I'm torn between wanting to see the natural beauty and being turned off by the commercialism of it all.

Julie; One of the Maid of the Mist boats is in this photo, actually. I believe I took Charles on that just later this same day.

Avery; I still recommend it, not just because Niagara Falls is stunning (& free to see,) but because there's so much OTHER natural beauty throughout the area. The gorge is just upriver (across from the botanical gardens & butterfly conservatory,) the Bruce Trail (on the Niagara Escarpment,) starts not much farther upriver from that. A half hour inland is Short Hills Provincial Park & Lake Erie & Lake Ontario are on either end of the Niagara River. There's also a lot of history of the War of 1812 throughout the area. There's SO much more to see & do (for cheap or more often free,) than "just" the Falls!

"Oh yeah," he says, with the faintest of leers, "come over and sit by me."

See I'm always trying to get you close, even in dreams.

Charles; You know what I like. ;)

I've been to both the American and Canadian side of the Falls. I was amazed at how many hotels have huge advertisements that they have rooms with heart shaped tubs for honeymooners :)

Lana Gramlich said...

Billy; Niagara Falls is considered the Honeymoon capitol of the world.

Wow, Lana. You really know your Niagara. I'll have to go up there next time I'm planning a foray into New York. Not too far from here; six or so hours.

The Architect and I went to the Poconos this past summer and everyone had to ask us if we stayed in one of the rooms with the heart shaped tubs. Thankfully, our hotel was more like The Shining than commercial romance.

I've been to the Poconos (as a very young kid.) As for Niagara--I lived there for 18 years & one of my best friends could've been a professional tour guide. Too many people know about "the Falls" & nothing else. I like to pay my friend's knowledge forward, so to speak.

Amazing photo. So much power.

I've always thought along the lines expressed by Avery: Haven't been and not high on my list of places to visit because it's too touristy.

Thanks for sitting us straight. I still may never make the trip, but now I know I want to go.

Dream sounds like identity.

Amazing photograph - I love you photos :]

8 children with alarm clock?! Nightmare!

Ivan; When I get some time to work on real interpretation I'll certainly consider it.

DH; Thanks. I used to wish the same thing about dreams, actually.

Miladysa; Thank you. :) The kids were so disappointed with their presents, as I'm sure they would be in "real" life.

Lovely photo as always! What kinds of cameras do you prefer? I know nothing about it, except that I love to take pictures.

Lana Gramlich said...

Michelle; My favorite from the analog age was an Asahi Pentax. I received my first digital camera as a wedding present last year & I don't think I'd go back to analog now. The digital camera fits in my pocket, so I can (& often do,) take it everywhere. No longer do I have to deal with all the evils of film (costs, toxic chemicals, etc.) This also allows me to take more than just a couple of pictures of a subject & I can see the results instantly. No more need to scan photos, either (except for my old ones.)
