6 Unremarkable Things Meme

Sidney Williams, Avery DeBow & Lisa all tagged me for the "Six Unremarkable Quirks" meme. The rules:

1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules in your blog.
3. Tell about six unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag six bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger's blogs letting them know they've been tagged.

I'm breaking the last 2 rules, as I'm still very far behind on most of my life right now. If you want to do the meme, feel free. Now, my quirks...

1. I can make a sound exactly like a crying baby.
2. I can sniffle my nostrils in (with minimal effort.)
3. I still know the alphabet backwards (from my childhood.)
4. Soon I'll be donating some hair to Locks of Love. I'm starting to sit on it lately & the hot, HOT, HOT days are coming, so I guess it's about time.
5. I'm much sappier than I used to be. Sad movies used to make me sniffle a bit & tear up. These days I bawl like a baby, sometimes even an hour later.
6. I suffer from performance anxiety.

You know the alphabet backwards AND you can paint?!!!

Now that's sensational....

I find myself getting a bit sappier too. But I could never say the alphabet backwards.

That Baby-crying thing freaks me out but everything else on your list is kinda cute.

Lana Gramlich said...

Poetryman; Thanks & back atcha.

David; No applause, just throw money. *LOL*

Travis; I can't even watch the Humane Society commercials without breaking down anymore. Amazing what you remember from childhood, though!

Charles; Not as cute as you, sweetie pie.

Mundane? I don't think replicating a crying baby is all that banal. It's pretty cool, actually.

That's so great you're donating your hair. Very generous and sweet.

Your list is both interesting and succinct. Kudos to you for donating to Locks of Love. The crying-baby thing is cool. As for the "sappiness," I've had that all my life--I'm easily moved to tears by anything even slightly emotional or sentimental.

That's very sweet about locks of love. You have beautiful hair -- I wish my would grow out like that! As for sappiness, I think it's a good thing. My feeling is that I'm too tired to be overly cynical anymore and that it's not really healthy to be that way for me. I cried like a baby at the last few episodes of The Sopranos. (not a literal one, though -- that's a cool detail!)

That's really cool you're giving your hair to Locks of Love.

Sappiness seems to have become more common after Katrina.

Lisa said...

More kudos on donating your hair. I am very impressed that you can do the alphabet thing! I think I've gotten a lot sappier too over time -- er, or maybe it's hormonal ;)

Hello!
I was googling something else when I stumbled on your blog. I just moved
to Abita and I do some painting as well. I've been painting for years, but
only recently have I found the time to do it with regularity. I've taken a
couple of pictures, but I'm not a professional--I just like art. Here's the link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/barnyardmama/sets/72157605165825592/

I've been playing around with texture and layers of paint.

Anyway, somewhere on here you discussed the idea of encouraging the art community of Abita. I would LOVE to see more of that. I'd had some thought on it myself. Please e-mail me or keep me in mind if you now of any art-related events going on.

Avery; I wish the crying baby sound worked better as a practical joke, but I usually end up faced with confused, concerned & annoyed people.
I've tried to volunteer for various causes in the New Orleans area after Katrina & everything ended up a relatively impossible debacle. I decided on Locks of Love last year. They're large enough to be well organized, at least!

Sphinx; Thanks. I should've known better than to watch a rerun of M*A*S*H* tonight in which Col. Blake gets sent home. I cried badly enough the first time. My own fault...

Michelle; Thanks for the compliment on my hair. Unfortunately I can do very little with it & its a general pain in the arse, so Locks of Love it is. *L* Somehow I have plenty of energy for cynicism (although I refer to it as "realism,") yet I still bawled uncontrollably after a recent rerun of "E.T." What's up with THAT???

Shauna; Thanks. My increased sappiness started before I ever moved to New Orleans, actually. I can understand the Katrina thing, though.

Lisa; Thank you for the kudos. I suspect you're right on the hormonal thing. It would explain a lot, actually...

Bird; Howdy, neighbor! Cool works. :) You might want to stop by the Berkeley Gallery here in Abita. They were kind enough to invite me into a recent show (I ended up in the current issue of Covington Magazine that way,) & they really seem the only artistic focal point we have in Abita. If you join any local groups (i.e.; "Art for Madisonville," "Bayou Lacombe Art Center,") I would warn against joining the STAA (St. Tammany Art Association,) for far too many reasons. I work at the library--feel free to stop by sometime if you get a chance.

lol random. I'll spend the rest of the morning trying to figure out the alphabet backwards!

Sympathies with feeling behind on life. Everything's been happening at once round here.

You can sniffle your nostrils in!!! I've only known one other person who can do that. You have amazing facts about yourself. I enjoyed learning more about you. :D

How wonderful you are donating your hair to Locks of Love!!!

Hugs, JJ

Lana Gramlich said...

Julie; Much easier to just write out the alphabet from right to left. ;) My brother had it on a 45 (record) when we were kids.

JJ; Thank you. :)

Lynda Lehmann said...

I can't recite the alphabet backwards and I'm generally bad at math.

I'd like to hear your baby-cry sound. I'm good at some jungle animal sounds, a carry-over from carrying on during college years, when we did wildcat and monkey calls across the courtyards between the dorms. Sometimes I think they incited what we, in those years, called "panty-raids." That was before your time, I think....

I don't know anyone without at least some degree of performance anxiety, myself included!

Miladysa said...

Locks of Love is soooo important and I know that you hair will be appreciated :-D

I never knew 6 had a name - you learn something every day :-D

Nice job on this meme....I really like your blog...lovely...cheers.

Larry said...

There seems to be a lot of crying involved here. You'd better get out and do some birding to cheer yourself up.

Lana Gramlich said...

Lynda; I wish I had a mic--I'd record the baby crying sound for you! I assure you that even at 40, I'm not too young to recall panty raids. *L* My performance anxiety is the kind that incites panic attacks...at best.

Miladysa; I recently learned that 80% of donations to Locks of Love come from kids wanting to help other kids. That's sure to trigger my "sappy" reaction!

Island Rambles; Welcome to it & thank you!

Larry; Getting too hot for that, unfortunately, but perhaps painting birds will have a similar effect. :)

Hey bud!
What can I tell you~I'll never forget that baby-crying you imitated one day at work, it was freaky! You had me running for a bottle and a diaper...it doesn't take much to confuse me though. LOL!

Lana Gramlich said...

Virginia; *LOL!* I wish it was better for practical jokes, but it just makes people concerned, & that's never really funny. <:\

Steve Malley said...

Cool things, all six!

Lana Gramlich said...

NW; I made the mistake of watching the end of "Million Dollar Baby" the other night. Talk about a pathetic sap fest! <:(

Steve; Thank you!

Sidney said...

I'm sappier than I used to be too. I cry at movies that aren't tearjerkers.

Lana Gramlich said...

Sidney; *LOL* Unfortunately so many movies these days are so bad you can't help but cry, anyway.
