Hair & Feathers (or Lack Thereof)

Here's a picture of my hair (taken today,) & the rainbow dress I mentioned in a previous post. The dress is very comfy. The hair, at this point, is not. It's hot, it's heavy & I'm sitting on it all the time. The other day it got caught in the car door. In short, it's about time to go for that cut. After some further research, I may have trouble with my donation. Locks of Love seems to want my ENTIRE pony tail, which I'm not willing to give up. I had short hair ONCE. I'll NEVER do that to myself again. With waves like this, when I cut it short, it's just horrible; it sticks out all over & is completely unruly unless I gel it all down, which is even worse. I even lost a job because of it. NEVER again. I'm completely willing to lose the bottom half, but the top half's gotta stay. I'll have to talk to the hairdresser & see what can be done. In a similar yet opposite vein, I felt so sorry for this female cardinal, spotted in the yard this afternoon. At least a haircut doesn't hurt, but this poor girl's had ALL of her head feathers pulled out! I can't imagine what happened to her. Talk about a bad hair day!

I liked you with short hair. But the long hair is nice, too. But Give it Up. It's for a good cause.

Poor cardinal! Think you can get her to hold still while you put some sunscreen on for her?

dang, on both fronts, lana :(

Lana doesn't mention, but I really really don't like short hair. So I hope she doesn't get it cut off short.

It seems a bit early but she might be molting. And the other alternative is a group of bachelor cardinals have been after her and pulled the feathers out.

Lana, keep the hair long. Accept the occasional mishaps with car doors, I'm with Charles, long hair is best.

Pit the poor Cardinal!

BA; I used to like me with short hair, too, but it went suddenly wavy when I turned 21 & now it's just a debacle. Fortunately it grows like a weed.

Lisa; Unfortunately not. If they even see me watching them from the house, they take off. <:(

Laughingwolf; Everything will work out in the end, at any rate.

Charles; I assure you, I've learned a lesson about short hair & will NEVER do that again. Right now it's just TOO long, though.

Abe; Considering the plethora of cardinals around here, I suspect she's been mobbed. After all, the other day I saw a male cardinal in only slightly better condition. Besides that pair, the rest of the cardinals are all fine.

Danny; Trust me, even if I cut half of it off today, it'd be almost as long by this time next year. I may not be able to do much with it, but MAN does it GROW!

Oh

Cadinal sin.

(Most foul). Wonder what/who did it.

p.s. YOur site is sometimes hard to get into for comment. OK today, though.

Locks of Love only requires the longest part to be 10 inches, so you should be fine and still have plenty of hair left. I've done it before. It's a great cause.

Lana Gramlich said...

Ivan; Likewise, I'm sure. ;)

Sandpiper; Good to hear. I figured I could get away with cutting half off. I mean, how would they possibly know? Thanks for the confirmation!

It's so long...they can get plenty and still leave you with a good length.

Travis; Good...that day draws near!

You lost a job because of bad short hair? Sounds like a obvious case of hairassment to me.

That poor cardinal. She must have shed them somehow. It's hard to see wildlife hurting.

Lana, could they just tie the elastic for the pony tail further down on your hair so you can still donate? What a gorgeous hair and great dress.

Hugs, JJ

Lana Gramlich said...

Marvin; *ROFL!* Not so much because my hair was short as it was just really BAD. My employer insisted I cut it even shorter & I refused, so I lost my job.

JJ; Thank you! According to previous commenters they can take the lower half, so I'm good to go.

Hey Lana,

Beautiful beautiful hair. Love the dress as well! I'm a big fan of the summer dress that is comfortable and colorful. As long as the color is mostly black. Ha ha -- kidding, although I do have a bunch of "summer" black dresses. The rainbow stripes are very cool. I'm sure your haircut will turn out great and give you some relief from the summer heat. I'm trying to grow my hair out which is a task given that it grows one inch every other year.

Lana Gramlich said...

Michelle; Thanks. *LOL about the colorful "black!"* Sorry your hair doesn't grow quickly. If I could, I'd send you some of my "miracle gro" scalp. *L*

Long hair + Hot humid Louisiana summer = Miserable.

Travis; You ain't kiddin! <:P

Your hair is so beautiful, Lana! I wouldn't cut it, but I can understand. My hair was that long when I was a little kid, and I wore it in braids all the time. I'll never forget getting burs stuck in it one time.

I hope Mrs. Cardinal is OK ~ poor thing!

Lana Gramlich said...

Lisa; Thanks. I'm sure some poor kid could use it more than I can at this point & it'll grow back pretty quickly.
Mrs. Cardinal seems to be functioning well. She just looks horrible. <:\

whoa, i knew you said you were donating but that's some hair, makes me want to get a hair cut.

that's a very nice thing you are doing. i don't have much hair to donate cause i keep cutting it.

car door? that had to hurt. yeowww!

I'm with you on the wavy hair. Not wavy enough to be curly, but never straight. I just chopped mine to my shoulders a few weeks ago, but my ever-patient stylist had to endure an entire litany of what I would and would not tolerate in a shorter haircut. Worked out pretty well, though.

That poor bird.

Lana Gramlich said...

NW; Car door, purse zipper, shirt sleeve--you name it, my hair's been caught in it. <:\ I will be happy & proud to pass some of this mane on to a needy child, y'know?

Avery; You & I understand the wavy hair thing perfectly. Nice to know I'm not alone! Unfortunately the hairstylist who cut mine short failed to warn me that waves + short hair = disaster, regardless of my suspicions to that end. I was SOOOO mad at them, but what could I do? And the last time I went for an inch (or two) trim, the b!tch took 5. Evidently the customer's not always right! >:(

Good luck with your hair decision.
The cardinal? Feathers (like hair) will grow back. Sometimes they molt all their head feathers at the same time instead of partially (Blue Jays do too sometimes). It wasn't that anything pulled them out of her.

Lynda Lehmann said...

Lana, I have the same problem with my curly hair. If I cut it short, I look for the entire summer as if I've been hit with an egg beater!

So I like to keep it pony-tail length now, after years of trying to adjust to a shorter cut!

Your hair is lovely!

Lana Gramlich said...

Zen; I know the feathers will grow back--it's just that the cardinals have been so vicious with each other lately. <:(

Lynda; Thank you. I was thinking the 1st day of summer will be a good time to get it cut, but right now I'm doubting I'm going to make it that long. *L*
