I'm Stoked; An Art Invitation

Here in Abita Springs, the "Friends of the Park" are restoring & improving our town park, including a brand new children's playground & an awesome fountain (from what I hear.) The pavillion & new trailhead museum mentioned in previous posts are on the park's grounds.
Tonight I received a call from the head of the group's art committee, inviting me to paint a local, historical oak on a 4x8' panel that will be used as part of a fence (they want to use local artists.) It doesn't pay (financially,) but it's a great opportunity to do something for the town & perhaps get some exposure in exchange. I'm totally stoked about it!
The only down side is that they want the panel completed & returned by June 23rd. I'll be pushing my other projects to the side for the time being to focus completely on getting the panel done. As a result, I may not post much here in the next couple of weeks, but I will definitely post pictures when I'm finished!

Great news! Mighty oaks from little acorns grow -- or something like that.

Lana, I'm THRILLED for you and can't WAIT to see your historic oak panel on your blog. WOOT!!! They didn't give you much time so if you don't show up on my blog I'll know why. :D

We have a children's park where a local artist changes her work from time to time and I love seeing what she has up next.

Hugs, JJ

That's fantastic! Will that be a Live Oak? I remember seeing how many of them withstood Katrina!

If you are up to it, you need to do it. It sounds like fun, and a lot of rewarding payoff. You're art will have so many travelers snapping photos! It would be awesome!

Barbara, Lisa, Julie, JJ, Christina, Travis & Steve; Thank you. :)

Danny; Yes...I'm so glad to have the opportunity to leave a lasting mark! Too bad it would be "bad form" of me to leave a scathing message about the evils of Big Brother (instead of a tree.) <:\

Dave; No, actually. It appears to be a laurel oak. In my painting it's likely to appear more like a live oak, however. Difficult to fill up a horizontal space with a vertical subject, y'know?

Whoa, what an honor, great news. I can't wait to see the finished product. Congrats.

NW; Thank you! I'll probably be working hard at it this weekend, in particular.
