New Painting; Eye Candy

"Eye Candy"
Acrylic on 8x10" canvasboard
A wash of irridescent white in the bottom part of the iris shines in the light. A complimentary effect is found in washes of gold paint in the wrapper. The entire eyeball is coated with gloss varnish, giving it a wet look.

"Eye Candy" has such a negative connotation, at least in the context of where I work.

You already know how much I like it.

Never mind the cook. Did you check the ass on that trusty?

Lana,

Pretty good representation of a phrase.

I like that and the surrealism of it.

Thanks, all. At one point I'd considered naming my art business "Eye Candy," with this kind of idea as the logo. I've since changed my mind, but still wanted to paint out the idea for fun.

Hi Lana,
I really like experiencing your joy in creating art. It is contagious.

I especially liked the photo a few posts back. It shows pebbles and twigs and other things. It's just beautiful.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment on my blog. I'm really sorry to hear that the economy has scraped into your family.

Fun piece, if not a bit creepy. Well done too. Would make an interesting series, don't you think?

All; I'm glad you like it. I'm often drawn (pardon the pun,) to surrealistic/fantastic subjects. Unfortunately they don't seem to sell as well as the mundane for some reason...

caroline; I've often noticed, while out walking through our neighborhood, that our streets are figuratively "paved with art." Such a variety of colors, textures & shapes! As for the economy, I'm sure my brother will bounce back. He's quite resourceful & he's good at what he does. That doesn't mean I'll end my boycott of Verizon, though. ;)

donnetta; See my earlier comment.

paul; I actually have plans for a 2nd surreal eye painting right now. Bit of a different theme to it. I don't want to give it away, though.

Hey lovely Lana,

So glad to be back and see your new stuff! Love the eye -- beautiful and creepy. The gloss is inspired.

Lana Gramlich said...

shauna; Thank you. :)

michelle; Welcome back! I like including various light effects in my work, when I can. Sometimes it can be overpowering, but I think it works well in this one.

Great eye candy! I've never seen it in this way before! Too bad on the web you can't see the glossy-ness.

miladysa & chris; Thanks much. :)

I love it. As soon as I get some money, I want one. :-) I have gotta have that on my wall.

Lana Gramlich said...

ryan; Thanks. :)

dh; Glad you like it! Let me know if you get some money before 11/8 (when this will be going to a local art market.)

Clever idea! If it gets red-eye you have to use vanilla extract drops instead of visine.

larry; *LOL!* Yes...Good one!
