Sky Watch & Hooray for Fall!

All recently taken from my yard...

In other news, I'm delighted by the arrival of Autumn. Now that temperatures are returning to bearable we'll be able to resume hiking & enjoying our deck. New photos are sure to come soon.

Visit the Sky Watch homepage.

Looking forward to our walks, although we both seem to be very busy at the moment. That top one is very cool. Looks almost like an aurora.

Lovely shot of the moon especially. We're just switching on the central heating over here - grown more autumnal in the past few days.

you have a nice blog. Good luck.

great night shot of the moon!

charles; Things will settle down soon enough for both of us. At the very least we'll get in plenty of hiking during our upcoming staycation. :) That 1st shot of the sky reminded me of the quasi-Druidic "3 Rays of Awen" (or inspiration.) It was very surreal.

julie; We're finally able to shut our air conditioner off at night. Hooray!

dexter; Thank you! :)

dorkys r.; Thanks. I was getting eaten alive (even while coated with "Deep Woods Off,") by mosquitoes taking that shot!

Beautiful! Do you ever paint from your photos? (probably a question you've answered before, but I don't remember)

Breathtaking sky photos, Lana! And yes, I love the fall too. :-)

Can I come live with you guys? In fact, my whole neighborhood wants to come live with you guys! Of course, we would have to leave behind scenic Detroit!

After seeing this last set of photos, I am compelled to use them in the creation of a story to pay tribute to your great gift. However, this is one case where literature will have a difficult time competing with art.

Wow Lana-- love the moon, spooky goth ones! I'm so happy it's fall -- my favorite season! Now that I'm no longer teaching, I'm really enjoying it even more than usual.

We're surrounded by nest building, bird-courting, insect-waking, sunny warm Spring.

This pleases me.

Louisiana in autumn, though. That sure is something...

OMG, I love where you live! Those pictures are so beautiful. I feel like writing just looking at them. How inspirational!

Lana Gramlich said...

shauna; Yes, I do paint from my photos. Some examples include this, this and this.
BTW, did you ever look at the cards I had for sale (that you'd asked about some time ago?)

lisa & christina; Thank you! :)

vwriter; I'm flattered. I used to live in some major cities myself. I could never do that again. I'm just a country girl at heart.

michelle; This year Oct.'s full moon is on Charles' birthday, too. *twilight zone music*

steve; You're as glad to see your Spring as we are to see our Fall, I'm sure!

Travis Erwin said...

I love that first moon shot.

Lana Gramlich said...

Thanks, travis! I'd finally bought myself a tripod, making some night photography possible. I'll be glad when the mosquitoes die down, though!

These are beautiful, Lana. I particularly like the colors in the first one.

Lovely shot of the moon peeking out from the clouds.

Fall looks beautiful in Louisiana, there among the pines, and it's wonderful here in Canada too.

But pretty soon, we'll be singing old Apallachian songs here.

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun never shines.

I shivered where the cold winds blow.

Every one is beautiful shot.

You really have the knack of capturing mood on film.

Beautiful shots Lana.

The night moon between the trees ROCKS!!! You must make it a painting!

YogaforCynics said...

Autumn...what exactly does that mean in your steamy climes?

Love the pics, especially the top one....

Lana Gramlich said...

wren, barbara, miladysa & anndi; Thank you. :)

ivan; I must admit that these photos are all technically from Summertime, but there won't be much Autumn change to our evergreen forest, anyway. ;) If I think about it, I can remember Autumn (& Winter,) in S. Ontario. That's why I tend not to think about it. <:\

chris; I'm already a bit back-logged on painting ideas (which is a refreshing change!) I'll add it to "the list," though. ;)

drjay; Thank you. :) Autumn (& Spring,) here in the deep South is about comfortable temps (high 60s to low 80s,) & low humidity (20%, if that.) In short, it's perfect!

I need to keep my camera handy. I missed a lot of photo ops last fall and it really gets pretty around here.

Drowsey Monkey said...

Ooooh, these are gorgeous. Love the mood, especially in the last one.

Gorgeous photography! The skies look like silk scrims to get lost in forever.

Great eye. I had a camera, I got it for Christmas and took about 700 pictures with it. Then I let my youngest sister borrow it for her graduation all night shut in at her highschool...

Sense tragedy yet?

Of course it was stolen. And I, never one to think ahead, did not back up the memory card. I lost some beautiful moments I;ll never have back.

So it goes...

But one day I'll get another one and take 7,000,000 more pictures. It will be glorious.

But probably not like these.

Good to see your art once more.

Lana Gramlich said...

travis; For a while in my life I didn't go anywhere w/o a camera. It was nice, in that I never missed a shot, but that was back in the days of all that clunky equipment & rolls of film. These days my camera fits in my pocket, so I have no excuse!

drowsey; I like the last one quite a bit, too. :)

eric; Thank you & egads, I'm so sorry! Yes, do get yourself another camera--digital technology has come a long way (& prices have dropped, as a result.) I download all of my photos pretty much immediately to avoid accidental deletions, myself.

Thanks, all! We're pretty lucky out here in the "piney woods," as the locals call them. :)

Nicely done!

These are all gorgeous!
I love the first eerie moon shot and the purple colored clouds in the following shot.

Your artwork is very neat - loved "Eye Candy" - clever interpretation of the phrase.

Oh now those are just a beautiful series of photos. You did a great job of taking them. Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures. Ready for fall in Oklahoma, too. Not as pretty here in central Oklahoma as where you are--some parts of Oklahoma are beautiful now, however. Still--glad for fall here. Tired of summer! D

Nice series, each photo depicts a different mood. The first one the best for me

imac said...

Beautifully well framed photos

Lana Gramlich said...

All; Thanks for the kind comments.

Donnetta; Ugh, yes! I think I was officially tired of Summer when Gustav left us both naked & sweating on the deck for 4 days w/o power. I'd pretty much had enough by then. *L*

I agree-When Fall arrives my mind and spirit get a much needed shot of adrenaline.

arija; Thanks!

louise; Thank you. I have a keen eye for sunsets, which are among my favorite things to shoot. I'm also blessed to live in a place that gets fabulous sunsets!
