Etc. New Orleans Shots, Oct. 13th.

Charles had wanted to go to the new insectarium in town, so I downloaded directions the night before. Unfortunately they turned out to be wildly inaccurate & led us to an industrial park about 30 miles away in Chalmette.
On the plus side, we ended up near NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility, where they make the booster rockets for the shuttle. Unfortunately the plant is being phased out as the US gov't has suspended shuttle missions as of 2010. The picture is of a Saturn V booster rocket (or more likely a mock up of one,) from the Apollo missions. Trust me when I say that you have no idea how HUGE that unit is from this mere photo.

Canal St.

On our way to lunch in the French Quarter, we came upon this monument in the sidewalk.

Hooray! We've finally found the Insectarium! In the enlarged version of this picture you'll see the little sign that says "Closed Monday" (can you guess what weekday the 13th was?)

At NOMA (which is also closed Monday.)

That part was rather disappointing, but I'm glad we went and later in the day it was very enjoyable. Always great to be with you, of course.

LOL!!! I thought you were going to post pics of insects!!!
:-)

My kids have been talking about hte wolf spider, whatever that is. ANd I know spiders aren't really insects, but to me they are.

charles; Even if our poorly laid plans didn't all come to fruition, I still had a wonderful time with you. It can be the end of the world...if I'm with you, it's still a good day. :)

laughingwolf; It was all good. It became such a debacle that it switched from disappointment to amusement at some point. *L*

chris; Well, I WAS going to post insect pictures, but it didn't really go anywhere. *LOL*
We have big, hairy, wolf spiders here. Got a picture of one last winter, actually.

The insectarium sounds like my kind of place. Too bad it was closed. :-(

When doing weekend shows, we've often thought about staying over wherever we were and taking a one-day vacation seeing the local attractions, but as y'all discovered, many local attractions are closed on Mondays. Pffft!

Glad y'all had a great trip.

Marvin; Maybe on the weekend shows you can go a day early, instead--that'd be cool!

Great photies Lana.

So sad to see all those names on the tribute but I thought that it was a lovely way to remember them.

I LOVED the sign for the Insectarium :D Shame it was closed :{

Lana: This sounds like some of my excursions! But, the path always leads us somewhere. Looks like you still had an interesting day. Cool photographs, as is usual with you! D

Drat! But it does look like you had an interesting adventure anyway.

Ah, the intrepid travellers. Your post made me laugh. Love the pics, and the positive attitudes through adversity.

Well, at least you got to see the alligator-climbing-up-a-ladder, which looks really cool from here....

miladysa; Thanks. Yeah, the tribute was sad to see. We'd been down there plenty of times & I'd never noticed it before. C'est la vie on the Insectarium. At least now we know it's not 30 miles away in an industrial park in Chalmette! *L*

donnetta, travis & britta; Thanks. It was a good day out, regardless. Non-stressful (my favorite!)

drjay; The alligator climbing the ladder is kind of reminiscent of Hurricane Katrina, now that you mention it. *L* All in all it was a great day, regardless.

I miss New Orleans.

travis; You'll have to find an excuse to come over this way someday. We'd be happy to put y'all up, of course! That would cut down the expense, at least!
