For our anniversary yesterday we went to Fontainebleau State Park at sunset. This past May the entire park had finally reopened on completion of a massive restoration effort after Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately the park was closed again by damage done by Hurricane Gustav. Although they're still working on repairs, they opened for business again just this weekend.
Hard to see in these photos, but the farther the sun sank toward the horizon, the more we were inundated by dragonflies. By the time we left there were hundreds of them all over the marsh.
On the other side of the sky, the moon rose. In the enlarged version (click to see,) the dark spots & streaks close to the horizon are some of the dragonflies.
Afterwards we went out for a delicious, Italian dinner (& our waiter treated us to an enormous slab of chocolate cake, gratis.) It was early to bed so we could get up before dawn for another hike...Stay tuned! (Update, Oct. 31, 2008; This photo was featured on the front page of the St. Tammany News.)
tabib; Thank you. We were surprised none of the dragonflies bumped into us, considering how many there were!
witch doctor; Thanks! All my days are good ones lately, I have to say. :) To be honest, I'd deactivated my FB account over a year ago. Only reactivated it at the urging of others, who still don't bother keeping touch, anyway. FB just makes me repost things that are already on my blog, with the added benefit of dealing with ads & app BS, so I'm done with it. Ironically, you're one of the very first people who've actually noticed!
Hey Lana! I hope you had a lovely anniversary! You and Charles look so cute together!
I am out and about - but don't tell my agent as I am procrastinating right now, but I missed all my blog friends and their lives! And what beautiful pictures you have up today as usual! I love the last 3 but I think the crab is my favorite! Especially cause I ate half a dozen of his larger cousins this weekend! he he!
I really enjoy Charles's site and followed Travis's MTM link to your page... I just want to say, wonderful photos! My wife and I have been admiring the Louisiana sunsets recently and I think you've captured the amazing colors of the evening sky very nicely.
Congratulations and many happy returns to you both and hope you have a great few days. I started blogging just after you got married, and its been really nice getting to know you both. The pics are stunning as always!
