A few more recent shots...

Chipping (left) & white throated (right) sparrows.

The local mob shaking us down for sunflower seeds.

Blue jay.

Last night's moon, draped in a thin veil of cloud. Note that this Friday's full moon is the biggest & brightest of the year.

The gold finches are finally gone. So glad you've welcomed them. Today I've had cardinals, chickadees, blue jays, assorted woodpeckers, juncos from the north and assorted sparrow and wrens. Time to refill the finch feeder and the suet, and to check on the chickens...

Looks like I lassooed that moon and pulled it a little closer to you.

It is getting a little spooky. I snapped some frosty leaves the other day and so did Holly. I took a couple of shots of the moon the other day too only in a daylight sky...........you seem to be getting on great with camera ;)

Hey that mob does scare me! Your bluejay is precious and I like the haze around the moon. Moisture in the atmosphere or rain soon???

Oh that moon!

What a phenomenal moon photo, Lana! And where do I go again to find your Dragon sketches?

Love the shot of the moon with haze... If ever you could, watch for a night when the moon gets a halo around it from a thin haze layer, this one looks like that because it was a thick layer, but still sparse and hazy. They are rare shots, but lovely all the same.

The halo'd moons are sailing omens, by the way.

Yep, I'm a dork, I used to read a pocket field guide to clouds and weather forecasting.

debra; Cool. Your birds sound much like my birds (although we're still getting Winter stragglers filtering in these days.) I used to raise chickens, too (among other birds,) years ago (although those were show banties.)

Charles; You must have...This Friday's moon is the closest & brightest of the year. I knew you had to have something to do with that. ;)

Chrissy; My instructional video (for the camera,) came yesterday, so I'll be watching it as soon as I get a chance. As for "frosty," ewwwwwwww, yucky! ;) *L*

Ladybug; Thanks. We love the mob, (who are not ALL shown here,) too. All critters (except my arch-nemesis, rat ba$tard squirrels,) are welcome.

Scott; Thank you. I was having a heck of a time shooting the moon, as I was trying to make adjustments in the dark & didn't even know how to set the camera right, but I think it came out okay, all the same.

Chris; The haze was a thin layer of high clouds. We've had rain over the past 24 hrs, so I'm sure that was all part of it. The mob's actually not so bad. 2 of those are young raccoons & will take off as soon as we open a door. One is the mama, who now associates the opening door with feeding time & will come right up for a snack. Not shown here is "fat daddy" raccoon, who's got to be 30lbs, if he's an ounce!

Travis; Imagine if our planet weren't blessed with a satellite...How bad would that suck? (Although, admittedly, we wouldn't even realize it.)

Rick; Thanks! I just e-mailed you about the dragon sketches. Sorry for the slight delay--been busy!

eric; I've seen moon haloes before & am always on the lookout for them, of course. As for being a dork, back in jr. high I was so taken by "earth science" that I considered becoming a meteorologist. Later I wrote a quarterly astronomy column for a local magazine for 7 years. So I'll see your dork & raise you a total nerd. ;) *L*

It looks as though that new camera is working well! I just love your closeups and especially the moon shot. I'll be looking out for Friday's moon! :o)

drjay; So do we (you should have seen the young'ns when they were still small!)

roadgurl5; Thanks! I'm hoping for clear skies Friday night. So far the forecast is a bit dubious.

super stuff, lana :)

We have had so few clear skies - I hope Friday is -I'd love to see that moon. Last night's moon was one of only two clear nights in the last month....

laughingwolf; Thanks. :)

Michelle; I must admit, I don't miss the too-often-overcast Canadian Fall/Winter skies. I woke up to SN*W today, though! We got 3" of it. It was HORRIBLE!

I was going to take a picture of the giant moon but then I got scared.Raccoons are fun to watch as long as they're not tearing through your garbage.
