New Painting + Birds! (Updated)

I completed this 16x20" acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas last night.

(Update; I ended up wiring this to hang in any direction & renamed it "Under See.")

In other news, I recently noticed new birds coming to our yard for seed--pine siskins;

There's a chipping sparrow & a goldfinch in the upper left hand corner & another goldfinch in the lower right. The other 2 are the pine siskins. Feel free to click for a larger view. These shots of birds on the ground always come out very jumbled-looking (with all the seed husks & whatnot.)

I pick the top image! :)

Definitely the top image.-What immediately comes to mind for me is weeds on the bottom of a pond with air bubbles headed to the surface. Of course,Pink Floyd music would have to be playing in the background.

top one with me too, lana...

love the bird pics, seeing as how the snow here is outrageous :(

I chose the top pic for the same reasons, an underwater scene. I guess that the brain likes something familiar. :-)

Lana- I really think that position #3 is the most dynamic. The bubbles catch our naturally left to right reading eyes, but once we're into the painting, the eye catches the drops leading the other way, and it really makes my brain start to think. This contrary motion gives the painting quite a lot of movement and depth. If it were me, I'd orient the painting with choice #3.

Looks like most everyone was picking up on the same kind of thing I was.

Thanks, all. I have to say, my first instinct was with Tom & #3. I'm still considering, however.

#1 is definitely the best. Anyone who disagrees is a philistine (except you, of course, Lana--artist's are never the best judges of their own work).

I'm with Pablo on this one.

I like number 3 the most :)

Well ideally I would like you to reproduce another and have 2 and 3 displayed together :)

#1 for sure! I LOVE this by the way, great piece!

I favor the second one, by far.

You gotta give 'em hope!

No. 3... I prefer that it has got cleaner looks.

OMG, is this one of those tests to tell me how screwed up I am?! :o|
I can't help but to treat it as such so I'm going to go with #1 because I'm usually optimistic. (FYI, I see #3 as "kind of pessimistic" and #2 as "kind of optimistic") I know, I'm a freak... :o| Love your birdy pic! :o)

I get the same feeling as earthtoholly! I love the top one, too. To me, the lines feel like they're striving to get somewhere, and the bubbles feel like hope bubbling up.

(Is that silly?)

Gosh, I really like that painting.

I like the top one best for the same reason that Larry, earthtoholly and spyscribbler gave. Reeds and bubbles in a pond is what comes to my mind when I view it and hope is symbolized by the rising bubbles.
&hearts your paintings :)tt

The top one evokes more feeling to me at least. I feel like the lines are struggling to reach the top and the bubbles are floating above non-challant, not understanding how the red lines are striving.

But that's just me.

This painting is great.

I like #3 as it gives me a more "slimming" image. Since I'm on a mission to get thin by using natural methods, I learned a bit about Feng Shui and the vertical vs. horizontal placing of art to compliment the process. So I'm definitely approaching the question from that perspective, which is why #1 doesn't work for me. After that, I just "feel" #3 more than #2.

You are very talented! Warmly, Barbara

I like the first way.

Hey Lana, I like #3 cuz it looks "arty" but #1 looks like coral on the ocean floor and of course the bubbles go up!

The top one is best. It looks like it is meant that way!

No 1 for me too :D

Thanks for all of the input, everyone! I appreciate your help

Yep, I see #1 as on underwater scene, but I really like #3. I don't know why I like 3 better than 2 though...

Lana Gramlich said...

Kate; (Ironically, I was just thinking of you!) Thanks for the input. I'm with you (& wonder the same thing, myself.) I actually figured out a way to string it so it can be hung in any direction, in the end. #2 got the fewest votes, though, by far.

If it's not too late to weigh in, #3 felt the most "right" to me, with #1 second.
