The Carnival's Over

I rec'd an e-mail from Carnival Cruises regarding our impending trip today. They've offered to up the 5 day trip to 7 days at no additional cost, with stops in Nassau, Freeport & Key West. Unfortunately we were all about the Mayan ruins and the extra days conflict with our schedules, so we're opting for a new, 3rd choice; getting our money back. Perhaps we'll try again next Spring.
Instead we've booked 4 nights in a cabin at Roosevelt State Park in the Bienville Nat'l Forest in Mississippi (about a 3 hour drive away.) In anticipation of the cruise (before the swine flu outbreak,) I'd purchased a spare battery and two 4GB CF cards for my EOS Rebel DSLR, so I know I'm set for picture-taking, at any rate!

Lana,

I'm truly sorry to hear about this. I'm glad you and Charles are still taking time off...we all need to recahrge the batteries, as it were. Ehatever you two end up doing, I hope you have a great time! Take care!

Ah well...I think I did a Carnival Cruise with the family when I was an incredibly miserable 14 yr. old...first time in the Caribbean...it was great at the time, though at this point, looking back, I was still miserable...at least I'm not one of those people endlessly looking back on my adolescent glory days and wishing the present could measure up...

Ah, well -- maybe not the best time for a cruise anyway. Your alt. plan sounds fun. Salud!

Hey pretty,
Sorry about the cruise! But I'm sure the national park will be great. It's always nice to get away from the day to day. And I'm sure you'll get some great pictures!

Better to be safe than sorry. You will have so much fun together one way or the other. My hubby is supposed to fly home to OK from our other home in FL pretty soon. I'm wondering if the flight will be shut down at that point due to the flu! If so, he'll have to drive it. Can't wait to see your pictures. I'm really trying to learn from you. Once I retire, I'll get more serious with my little digital camera. D

Scott; Ah well...c'est la vie, y'know? Regardless, I'm looking forward to some time off. We've both been working long & hard, we deserve a break & I'm always down with hiking in the woods. :)

Dr. Jay; Yeah, I hear you. I'm at a place in my life right now where anything we decide to do will be fully enjoyed, anyway. It'll be nice having an opportunity to engage in some photography in a whole new area. I'm looking forward to the camping trip.

Charles; No, YOU.

Erik; Yeah, it'll be nice to get away, regardless. There's always next year for Mexico!

laughingwolf; I appreciate that Carnival opted to give us a longer cruise to different ports at no extra cost instead of exposing us to swine flu, really. Can't fault them for that, certainly. *L*

Lauren; Yes, we're both looking forward to the cabin in the woods. If anything, we may have MORE relaxation there than we would on the cruise.

Michelle('s Spell); Cancelling the cruise was a bummer, but we're okay with everything, overall. Looking forward to the cabin in the woods. Any break right now is completely welcomed!

Donnetta; Yes, we're looking forward to the break, regardless of the plans. *L*
Gads...I'd rather chew my own foot off than drive from OK to FL! I can't take road trips like when I was younger.
You may want to see if there are any instructional videos on Amazon (or some such,) for your camera. I've found them to be a GREAT help!

The alternate trip still sounds wonderful. It's not Mayan ruins, but I'm sure you'll get to them one day.

Oh, I'm so sorry about your trip, Lana. Bummer! So now you have that trip to look forward to for a little longer. Have fun on your "replacement" vacation! :o)

What a shame about the Mayan ruins! Here's hoping for next year in Mexico and a good time at the park this year.

Travis; Yeah. We're looking forward to a break--whatever form that takes!

holly; I'm sure we'll have a great time. Thanks! :)

Shauna; Yeah, c'est la vie. I'm sure the campground will be lovely, though!

I'm so sorry to hear about that, but I feel much safer for you...I would love to see you go when you didn't have this other (prety big) worry in the background...

Hope to see nice pics when you return!!
