They're Here!

Like clockwork, the indigo buntings have arrived, as usual, on April 7th. There were at least 4 of them today. This will probably increase to about 6 or 7 over the next 10-14 days, then they'll be gone. These photos were taken haphazardly in rapidly-fading light when I got home from work this evening. I'll get better pictures soon enough, I promise!

Lana,

They are cute little bastards, aren't they? Nice pics as per usual!

Hi Lana,

I keep looking, this cold, wet, spring for some strangers to arrive but so far nothing new. I hope to someday get an indigo bunting but no luck so far. We had freezing temps again this morning, and some snow yesterday. I think the weather has something to do with the birds migrating this year.

Lana, I don't think I've ever seen a photograph of two indigo buntings and a male red cardinal. The contrast is striking. A great image!

Did you loose your chipping sparrows? Because they've shown up here. Abe should be seeing those soon too.

No indigo buntings in NE Ohio yet. They would be a lovely contrast with the snow, though :-)

We don't have these birds in my part of the world. The only "blue" birds we have are Stellar's jays. Thanks for sharing the photos. I'm looking forward to viewing more.

What great pics! The red of the cardinal and the blue of the bunting is stunning! 2 primary colors enjoying lunch. LOL.

Hi Lana
It's been several months since I visited. Thanks for stopping in at Crayons. I'm still waking up from hibernation. These are beautiful photos. I agree with the comment above about primary colors. Thanks for theses.

Hi there Lana. These are so beautiful! I had to go look them up in the bird book. Might they be "breeding males"? In KY I see blue birds (same?) during the summer but haven't seen them around here.

Great pics and am looking forward to more! :o)

Indigo birds. Showy.
Is one of them singing, "I left my heart in San Francisco?" Outrageous colours. :)

Those birds sure are colorful.

Ivan & Travis; Yes, they're certainly lovely little stand-outs.

I've never seen these little blue birds before, what a beautiful contrast between their deep blue an the cardinal.

Wow - your photos are freaking amazing! I'm just gonna hang around and look at some more. :)
