Last night I inadvertantly picked up a Google Hijack Virus just by visiting a blog directory website. Fortunately I'm a CNA with now-obsolete Netscape on my computer (in addition to IE,) so I was able to work it out, but it took about 7 hours. I'd recommend downloading Malwarebyte's free trial of AntiMalware in advance of ending up with this problem. (Update in response to some comments; Only my use of Google in IE was a problem, so you won't get any virus from me or my sites. I recommend downloading AntiMalware because the site I got the virus from seemed legit & req'd no download. In addition, neither Norton Anti-Virus nor Ad-Aware ever detected it, even after reinstalls & updating (& the first thing this virus does is disable Norton.) The only other option I found if you're NOT intimately familiar with the deepest workings of your computer is a complete System Restore. If you don't want to start from scratch, take the few seconds it takes to download AntiMalware. Better safe than sorry!)
My continuing recovery is going very well. A couple of days ago I seemed to really turn a corner & started feeling human again. I've even made a few, brief forays out of the house. My follow up appointment is early this coming week, so I hope to get the OK to return to work. Charles has continued to be wonderfully caring and helpful. I'm a very lucky lady.
There are still some days left in the MSNBC "It's a Snap" contest, but my entry is so far behind I don't expect to win. I appreciate the input & support I received, nevertheless! (Update, 8/17/09; I didn't get enough votes to get out of the lowest rungs of entries.)

Nice to hear that your healing. Good luck with the contest! (I'm not going to catch a virus, am I?)
Lovely to see tha grosbeak now. Nice to get a little color other than red in the yard.
I am always so jealous of the varieity of birds that you have in your area. And thanks for mentioning the virus and the recommendation - I've always been remiss at making sure my virus software is up to date.
'Glad to know you are feeling better. : )
Mo : )
Hey Lana,
Glad you've turned a corner! It's weird how it happens all at once after feeling awful, you wake up and feel a whole lot more like yourself. Here's to feeling much much better very soon!
Excellent news on the recovery.
That is one pretty bird! Glad you're feeling better!
Glad to hear that you're on the road to recovery.
Thanks for the computer info.
Glad you're doing better, Lana.:-) Sorry about the votes. I'm sure you would have done well. There are many more competitions and chances out there. You'll do well. ;-)
Glad your feeling better! And also thanks for the link. I'm headed there now...
So glad you feel a bit better...sorry that the voting didn't go so well in the competition but I have come to the conclusion that many factors make up the outcome and not much of it is down to talent.
However, as you say, having support from a loved one when you are poorly and down is the best.. Take care, I hope you continue to improve and good to see your blue visitor :D HugsX
Glad you're feeling better. Will watch out for virus. Have a couple defense systems and backups, where possible.
As for scams, that guy who cracked into tens of millions of credit cards' data -- probably explains why my card was replaced at one point last year, with all new numbers and stuff.
I would also suggest using anti malware is the right one to fix your virus problems....or as a combo try using AVG's latest one for best safety..
