This morning Charles & I went for a sunrise hike at Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, LA. Although the sunrise was lovely & we saw all kinds of birds, a fight between 2 tricolored (aka; "Louisiana") herons stole the show.
Wonderful series. I love all of them. What beautiful birds. My favorite is the 3rd from the bottom where the birds leave the water and start their little chase.
I love the site. You have a lot of good posts here. I have a site as well that provides inspiration and guidance to people around the world. I was wondering if we could do a link exchange, so we can tell our visitors about both of our sites. Let me know.
Holy Crap! Those are the BEST pictures EVER! I love that first one where they face off at each other as they are "going at it". The sun through their wings, and is that water speckles too? You're awesome!!! You captured a moment in heron time. You the woman!

That was a great morning. We've got to do this more often.
Hey Lana,
Kudos to both of you for waking up so early (sunrise hike?!) Beautiful pictures -- you really capture the spirits of those little guys.
I need to do that sort of thing more often. We get entrenched in our routine and often don't get out of it to have fun and make time for each other.
Those pictures are BEAUTIFUL! Wow!
Lana- great stuff.
Your photography is stunning. You captured a story with your photos.
Lana,
Amazing pics as always!
Excellent pics capturing life in action.
I love the one with the two in the air. It's like you walked in on a private dance.
I loved this series. We should all get out and view nature with an artist's eye.
How freaking GORGEOUS is that?
WOW!!!
I'm still in WA - I'm going to be on my way soon - I already have the funds in Paypal Ready to buy your draggys...

Those were really pretty pictures. It's funny because I was just reading a book with these birds in the storyline.
Amazing photos! Where I live I've never seen two herons together. They're such solitary birds.
Y'all were so lucky to witness the encounter. Thanks for sharing your awesome photos.
Lana, these are very beautiful shots. They are magical and very worthy of some competition entries.

What a cool thing to see!
Wow is right... What a series! One of those needs to be a painting!
The top image here, with the awesome backlight, is really, really nice Lana. One to be proud of.
Great! Wonderful! Exciting. They light is splendid. The marsh almost looks like a pencil drawing with the highlights. Thanks for sharing this.
Greta series of shots Lana, must have been wonderful to witness !!
LANA! This is a magnificent series!
Did you use a tripod? I'm amazed you were able to capture this action!
Thanks for the kind comments, all. :)
Lynda; No, no tripod (& w/o my 300mm zoom, too.)
Well done on the series, Lana. I suspect there was a hen somewhere worth fighting over.
