Charles & I went for a picnic at Fontainebleau State Park (in Mandeville, LA,) yesterday. It was gray & windy & eventually started drizzling, so we didn't stay long. All of these photos have been digitally brightened (it was a really dingy day.)
There's often dozens of American coots on the marsh, but today most of them were crammed together into a single, massive flotilla.
There were dozens of tree swallows all over the marsh. Although I didn't have enough light to adequately capture the action, I practiced panning anyway, trying to follow their rapid, darting flights with my zoom lens (& great difficulty.)
I see yellow-rumped warblers from time to time in our area, but this is my first photo of one. Click on the image to see some of his yellow rump.
When it started drizzling, we zipped up my Canon EOS Rebel (with the zoom lens,) in Charles' water-proof jacket. As soon as it was tucked away, a couple of brown pelicans showed up. Go figure. At least I still had my Canon PowerShot A570IS in my pants pocket.

...those were a lot of coots crammed together. I don't know if I've ever seen them that close. Loved the swallow shot...just the back of his wings...it's lovely.
Fantastic shot of the Tree Swallow Lana! Those little guys are hard to capture in flight, especially on a dark day.
The photo of the Coot raft makes me cold just to look at it ;-)
nice footage! It is no need to tuck away Canon cameras due to cold. I have two of them, 4oo and 5ooD. I have been out in -15 deg Celcius and they lasted for almost two h before being frozen. OK, it is not a thing to do every day I guess. But the cameras are sturdy.
Yet, you did have your small camera. My sweety is never unarmed, I like to say
Nice photo of the Tree Swallow in flight, Lana. You got better results on that shot than I've managed to capture. Those guys are just too darned fast!

When i see this,it bring my memory back to last few years ago. I used to follow my ex boss to take a pic of birds. He is a bird lover and love to paint the birds too.

Fazrul; I've been a bird watcher & lover since my early childhood. It's little wonder they're a favorite painting subject of mine.

That tree swallow is beautiful - I always associate swallows with migration to warmer places so it's strange to think of this bird in dingy, drizzly weather.
I like the shot of the Tree Swallow in flight.I can only get hawks in flight that are hovering using my point and shoot. I just want to give up trying to take pictures if there isn't adequate light.it's hard enough to get decent photos with good light.
