Yesterday evening Charles noticed a dead cardinal on our deck. It was gone this morning (likely dragged off by a possum or a coonie.) I've reported it to eBird. I've been hearing a lot more birds banging into the house this year than ever before. In a way, I hope that's what's happened here. I'd hate to think that our flu might be affecting "the kids."
In other news, we're getting the unusual "afternoon raccoon" these days.
(Update, Apr. 1, 2010; Due to a lack of much health improvement for either of us, today we went to see the local nurse. Charles had a bacterial sinus infection, which has turned into pneumonia for me. And no, this isn't an April Fools joke. At least now we have powerful medicines that should help more than Dayquil has.)

I'm sorry you're not feeling well - and just before vacation. Sounds like what happened to me. My condolences again to you and Charles. It's a stressful time, which might be which you all are sick.
Hope all of you feel better soon.
Hope 2 of my fave people feel better real soon!
Aloha from Hawaii, LaNa!

I hope you feel better, and Charles as well.
Love the raccoon pic. Cute little bandit.
Hope you both get well. As for the birds running into your house, that would worry me about the health of the birds. Please update on that if you find out what's going on.
Great picture! I only ran into a family of racoons once and they pretty much scared their cutiness right out of me. I'm afraid of them now.
I hope you both feel better soon. Big Hugs to you both ~ chrissy
Beautiful photo, Lana! I join you and Charles! Came home from my uncle's funeral on Tuesday and am all congested this morn.
You two get well soon!!!
I have something for you on my nature blog. :D
Hugs, JJ
Definitely sorry to hear about Charles being so sick--and you.
Raccoons. They're everywhere in Central Ontario...One fat one was up in a tree outside my window... It was very dark. I reported is a little bear cub--bears are now in suburbia--but the cops shone a light on it and found just a fat, tree-climbing raccoon.
A bit embarrassing.
Cheers.
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I'm sorry I'm not up to individual responses right now. I promise I'll get to those once I feel better.
Hoping you all are better by now. That was some really neat indigo bunting pictures. We rarely seem them here as the woods slowly disappear into producing ethanol, oops I mean corn.
I am so sorry to hear about your illnesses :( I hope you guys make a speedy recovery!
You poor kids! Get healthy soon, okay. I'll bet the racoons are dropping by to wish you well, too!
Best wishes that both you and Charles feel better soon!
Hey sweetheart,
That's awful! I'm so so sorry. I'll be sending lots of love to you and Charles. Get lots of rest!
Hope you're feeling better by now. :)
Laurie Powers; C'est la vie. At least we got help...eventually. <:\
Travis Erwin; It's taking a while, but we're much better than we were, at least!
Cloudia; Thanks. :)
eric1313; We're getting there, slowly but surely. Gotta love the coonies. :)
Christina; Actually our house is fairly "soft" (you can't even break an egg if you throw it at the outer wall.) Regardless, the poor cardinal was a fluke, at least.
I ran into a mama raccoon once w/a bunch of babies. Between my drunkenness & their curiosity, I got to touch them all. Mama wasn't pleased about that & came flying over the fence to teach me a lesson, at which point I gladly backed off. It was kind of fun, if reckless.
Chrissy; We're getting there, anyway! Thanks, hon. :)
JJ; Hope you're feeling better, as well! Thanks for the award. :)
ivan; I remember the raccoons particularly throughout the parking lots of the Niagara Falls hotels, where tourists would feed them. They're all over up there (& yes, they certainly get huge!)
troutbirder; It's been 2 weeks & we're actually not yet 100%. No spring chickens anymore, I guess. I'm sorry to hear about your buntings...and your woods. <:(
letspaintnature; Thanks, hon!
Rick; The raccoons are shaking us down for sunflower seed, truth be told. *L* Thanks.
Travis; Thank you. :)
Michelle; We're coming along, FINALLY!
Steve Malley; Although we're much better, we're still not 100%. That was one HECK of an infection, whatever it was!
