Photo Buffet

In response to some of the questions I get, please note that colored text contains a link to another site for more information on that subject. Now here are a variety of recent photos...

The first two feature a couple of common whitetail dragonflies that seem to like hanging out on and around the walkway at the bottom of our front steps.

The female was the first to arrive.

After a week or two, this male decided to join her.

Although we still have at least 2 dozen cardinals around, the blue jays are still increasing in numbers. Our highest recent count is 11.

In related news, a photo of a cardinal and a pair of blue jays at one of our feeders was recently featured on the front page of the St. Tammany News.

Rain on a banana leaf.

Down the dusty, gravel road from our house.

24 cardinals? What a sight that must be!!
My jay flock grows by the day. It probably matches your cardinal flock and I fear the numbers I'll see this winter.
I'm raising some really nice Chipping Sparrows for you to enjoy this winter, Lana!! They're a cute bunch!

Beautiful....
A local cardinal loves to wake me up at 4:30 am! LOL!

I know some people don't like blue jays, but I'm always happy to see them at my feeder. Looks like you have a nice little family at yours!

PS: I just realized you're not that far... just over the river in Louisiana. In the place where they make good beer. Nice! :)

Terrific shot of the calling Blue Jay Lana, and the sun through the trees is a cracker.

Like the last two photos best but couldn't get the news link. Love the texture and droplets on the banaba leaf photo.-

NatureFootstep; Always glad to share my little corner of the world. Glad you like it! :)

Zen Birdfeeder; 24 cardinals (in addition to the blue jays, various woodpeckers, etc., etc.,) are a very chaotic site, actually, but we love it. :) I can't imagine having that many blue jays--even 11 seems overpowering! Looking forward to seeing the chippers again (around Nov.) Thanks for taking good care of them!

Michelle; 4:30am? Eek! Sorry to hear that!

Halcyon; Yep...We're virtual neighbors. ;) I'm sure the other birds aren't crazy about the blue jays (which kind of "take over" when they come by,) but there's enough time & birdseed in any given day to make sure everyone's fed. :)

Phil, Cloudia & April; Thank you kindly!

kyungmee; Thanks. You'd love it here. There are thousands of dragonflies!

Larry; Apologies on the bad link...I've fixed it now. Glad you liked the rain & the sun. :)

Light. The most intriguing of all. I stood once in the plaza outside Rouen Cathedral. And thought of Monet. You captured it very well, Lana.

troutbirder, Nicole & Natasha; Thank you kindly. :)

celticmusicfan; I like that I don't have to worry about them biting or stinging. One can just enjoy them. :)

Wow, love all those pretty bluejays. Great shots! They get loud around here squaling for their peanuts.

Lana Gramlich said...

eileeninmd; Thank you. Yeah, they certainly get loud around here, too. They're like the thugs of the feeding area right now, but eventually they'll spread out over the area (to the relief of my other birds, I'm sure!)
